Professional Anxiety Therapy with a BACP Registered Counsellor
Losing someone important to you can be one of life's most difficult experiences. Whether your loss is recent or happened many years ago, grief can affect every part of your life, from your relationships and confidence to your sleep, work and emotional wellbeing.
At Heydays Therapy, Kelly Shaw offers compassionate, confidential bereavement counselling from her welcoming practice in Newby Bridge, supporting adults across South Lakes, Furness and Cumbria, as well as providing secure online counselling throughout the UK.
There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and there is no time limit on when you can ask for support.

Grief is different for everyone.
For some people it arrives in waves, while for others it can feel like numbness, confusion or simply struggling to adjust to life after loss. You may also find yourself grieving changes that aren't always recognised by others, such as the end of a relationship, the loss of your health, retirement or changing family circumstances.
You may recognise some of the following:
Grief doesn't follow a predictable path.
Counselling provides a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace.
Bereavement counselling is not about helping you "move on" or forget someone you love.
Instead, it offers the opportunity to understand your grief, process difficult emotions and gradually find a way of carrying your loss while continuing to live a meaningful life.
Together, we can:
There is no expectation for grief to follow a timetable. Counselling is always led by your individual needs.

Choosing the right counsellor is an important decision.
At Heydays Therapy, you'll find a calm, welcoming and confidential environment where you can speak openly without fear of judgement.
Kelly is a BACP Registered Counsellor with more than 25 years' experience supporting people and families through some of life's most challenging experiences within healthcare settings. Alongside her professional training, she also brings genuine empathy through her own lived experience of bereavement, having lost her husband whilst expecting her first child.
Kelly understands that grief affects everyone differently and that there is no "correct" way to experience loss. Her pluralistic approach means counselling is adapted to your individual needs, providing support that feels right for you and your circumstances.
As a BACP Registered Counsellor, Kelly works in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, which sets the professional standards for safe, ethical and effective counselling practice.
This means you can expect counselling that is confidential, respectful and centred around your individual needs, delivered within recognised professional standards and focused on building a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood and supported throughout your counselling journey.

Online appointments are also available throughout the UK.

If travelling isn't practical, secure online counselling is also available, allowing you to access support wherever you are in the UK.
Is there a right time to seek bereavement counselling?
No. Some people seek support soon after a loss, while others find they need counselling months or even years later. Grief has no timetable, and it's never too early or too late to ask for help.
Can counselling help if my grief feels complicated?
Yes. If you're finding it difficult to come to terms with your loss, experiencing overwhelming emotions or feeling "stuck", counselling can provide a safe space to explore those feelings and begin making sense of them.
Does bereavement counselling only relate to losing a loved one?
Not necessarily. People can experience grief following many types of loss, including relationship breakdown, loss of health, retirement, miscarriage, changes in family life or other significant life transitions.
Do you offer online counselling?
Yes. Alongside face-to-face appointments in Newby Bridge, secure online counselling is available for clients throughout Cumbria and across the UK.
Grief can feel incredibly lonely, but you don't have to face it alone.
Whether you've recently experienced a bereavement or are carrying a loss that still feels unresolved, counselling can provide a compassionate space to help you understand your emotions and find a way forward at your own pace.
